The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PC)

A super-sized look at the fourth game in the main Elder Scrolls series! No mods, no graphical enhancements. Just pure, straight out of the box Oblivion.

I have played this one before, but I never did finish it. If I remember right I mostly hid out in the Arena until I ran out of enemies to fight, then got bored with it.

(Click the pics to make them big.)

Interpose (MS-DOS) - Guest Post

Hello again! Would you like to see a really cool game?

This is Interpose, a 90s horizontally scrolling shoot-'em-up made by madcap Norwegian demo-scene group Twilight Zone gone straight.

Let me tell you a story.

Castlevania: The Adventure (GB)

The first Castlevania game released on a handheld system, and I'm guessing not the best of them. But you never know, I could be wrong.

Pu-Li-Ru-La (FM Towns Marty)

PuLiRuLa was originally an arcade game, then it also got ported to the Saturn, PlayStation, and PlayStation 2. But I'm going to play the FM Towns version because I'm curious.

Metroid (NES)

Apparently Metroid is a portmanteau of the words "metro" and "android". Though that doesn't really explain anything.

Wario Land 3 (GBC)

I've already played Wario Land II, now here's the third game.

You might be wondering about that smoke coming out of those trees on the right. Let me explain...

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (Game Cube) - Guest Post

Endless Wednesday posts are high in content and feature an extreme amount of words and images, to a degree that some readers might consider excessive. You have been warned.

In 2000, Nintendo showed off a tech demo at Spaceworld. The following year, they announced Wind Waker, and the fanboys started slinging shit because of the game's cel-shaded style. I was a bit disappointed at first, having seen the Spaceworld demo myself, but I quickly changed my mind after playing the demo included on the pre-order disc. So, in we go!

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES)

Finally, a Zelda game where I get to play as Link for a change.

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (PC)

In Elder Scrolls: Arena my bow broke and I was murdered by skeletons. In Daggerfall I roamed the land for days on foot, never finding out how to start the main quest. In Battlespire I got stuck in a bloody Battlespire... but this game I've played before. So hopefully I'll at least remember how to get to the plot.

And I'll be playing it 100% UNMODDED! Not even a graphics mod, this is vanilla Morrowind in its purest form. Click the pics for a super huge version. Well, 1280x960... slightly huge.

Deadline (MS-DOS) - Guest Post

What's that? I'm doing a game that looks interesting? I know!

Haunted Castle (Arcade)

This shares the same name in Japan (Akumajō Dracula) as both Castlevania and Vampire Killer, and is the first arcade game in the Castlevania series.

There's actually at least five games just called Akumajō Dracula, annoyingly. They could have at least given them different subtitles or something.

Chuck Norris Superkicks (ColecoVision)

A.k.a. Kung Fu Superkicks. Seven screens of Chuck Norris kung fu action, shit just officially got real.

Red Faction (PS2) - Guest Post

Hey, I've got a modern console game for you this time!

I like Red Faction. You should too! Here's why!

Die Hard (TurboGrafx-16)

That's a good title screen I reckon. Nice colours, it's got the right logo, and they even put the Nakatomi Plaza building on it. Which is nice seeing as the entire movie takes place there.

Thursday, 4 August 2011

Alien Breed 3D (Amiga)

Why is this marine yelling at us? You've got the gun mate, just shoot the bastard!

An Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire (MS-DOS)

Battlespire is the third of the Elder Scrolls games, but it's a side story, not part of the main series... and that's pretty much all I know about the game.

Eric the Unready (MS-DOS) - Guest Post

I'm not ready for Eric the Unready. This could be absolutely anything.

Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (NES)

Another Castlevania game that has a film effect on the title screen. I suppose the developers would have gotten a lot of their inspiration from classic horror movies.

Bubsy: Fractured Furry Tales (Jaguar)

They could have gone with 'furry tails' but they didn't have the nerve to commit to a pun of that magnitude. 'Bubsy: Fractured Furry Tails' has a very different meaning now that I think about it, but it'll be just as fitting after I'm through with the guy.

The 7th Saga (SNES)

This title screen isn't filling me with optimism to be honest.

William Shatner's Tekwar: The Game (MS-DOS) - Guest Post

Hey everybody, I'm playing something that isn't Captain America related!

Let's approach this with an open mind.

Captain America and the Avengers (Genesis/Mega Drive)

"The Avengers" exclaims the announcer. Already I can tell that this is going to be something, uh, special.

This one is entirely different to the NES game with the same title I played yesterday. It's actually based on an arcade game, which probably explains why there's an announcer.

Chantelise - A Tale of Two Sisters (Demo) (PC) - Guest Post

Ocean's finally back, and he's found another RPG that might interest you. Click the pics to see a (slightly) larger version.

This game is called Chantelise. Made by the same people who made Recettear. You can download the demo here: http://www.carpefulgur.com/chantelise/ and it is available on Steam!

Like Recettear (Recette and Tear), this title is a combination name. "Chante and Elise". Let's see how it is!

Captain America and the Avengers (NES)

It's yet another Captain America game. But this one's on the NES this time so maybe it's not all bad.

They really should have called it 'Captain America and Hawkeye rescue the Avengers' though seeing as the others get captured in the intro.

Tenchu: Stealth Assassins (PSX) - Guest Post

ZXLink brings his ninja skills to the PlayStation to take on a 3d stealth action pioneer.

Time to continue the ninja action! This time around we've got Tenchu: Stealth Assassins for PS1. It's a stealth action title, and it preceeded Metal Gear Solid by a good 7 months in Japan. I've seen it referred to as a "ninja simulator", which may or may not be an apt description. Let's find out!

The Amazing Spider-Man and Captain America in Dr. Doom's Revenge! (MS-DOS)

Another Captain America game! But will this one be any better than the last?

No, no it won't be. I mean just look at it, there's no way this is going to be any good. It came out in 1989, good DOS games probably hadn't been invented yet.

Captain America Defies the Doom Tube (Atari ST)

Captain Merica Defies the Doom Tube a.k.a. Captain America in: The Doom Tube of Dr. Megalomann. I don't know what a Doom Tube is, but it doesn't sound like anything I want anything to do with.

I suppose this music sounds alright though.

Shock Wave: Invasion Earth: 2019 (3DO) - Guest Post

Hey, folks. Wanna see another 3DO game?

Sure you do.

Vampire Killer (MSX2)

Apparently this was made about the same time as the original Famicom/NES Castlevania game, and was actually the first of the series to get a release in Europe.

Sunday, 24 July 2011

Parasite Eve (PSX)

Square's slightly Resident Evil inspired horror rpg, a sequel to the 1996 novel of the same name.

Saturday, 23 July 2011

2010: The Graphic Action Game (ColecoVision)

I think this may be it, the laziest title screen on my entire site.

The game's based on the sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey, which I'm sure I've read but can't remember a single thing about.

Friday, 22 July 2011

Clive Barker's Undying (PC) - Guest Post

Duke Nukem 3D (Genesis/Mega Drive)

Amazingly this is a real thing that exists. I've already played the original PC version and it's still as good as ever, but can this possibly stand a chance of measuring up?

So far the game sounds even worse that it looks. I think this is supposed to be the Duke Nukem 3D theme I'm hearing, but it's hard to tell.

Thursday, 21 July 2011

Superman: The Man of Steel (Atari ST)

It's playing the Superman movie theme! Could it be that I've actually stumbled upon a half-decent Superman game?

Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos (NES) - Guest Post

Tired of my shallow bite-sized posts, looking for something more substantial? Guest poster ZXLink takes a long look at NES classic Ninja Gaiden II, a.k.a. Shadow Warriors II.

Ninja Gaiden II for Xbox 360

Nah, the old one on the NES. Released in 1990, it takes place a year after the events of the first game. There's a nice cutscene before the title showing some mysterious dude with a badass looking cape that has some nice scrolling and lightning effects, at least for the NES.

A.P.B. (Lynx)

Already I'm starting to get the feeling this might have something to do with driving police cars.

Tuesday, 19 July 2011

The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall (MS-DOS)

This is the second game in the Elder Scrolls series, and it definitely has a more stylish logo than poor Elder Scrolls - Arena. Also you travel to a place called Daggerfall in it so the title has some connection to the game this time.

The game is now free and can be download from the official site. This is the version I'm going to be playing.

The Scoop (MS-DOS) - Guest Post

Because you like to see him suffer, mecha-neko is back with another point and click adventure guest post!

As an apology for the image heavy Mixed-Up Fairy Tales, we're going back to the low-colour eighties for "The Scoop".

Castlevania (NES)

Like The Legend of Zelda, this is a genuine NES classic that I've somehow managed to avoid playing until now. Or maybe I just always got killed by the first boss, I forget.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy - Starship Bridge Simulator (32X)

Wow, what is it with the 32X and 3d space games? This doesn't look like it's going to be one of the best of them.

Semi-Random Game Box
