Blue Lightning (Lynx)

Whoa, 1989... that's the same year that the Game Boy came out. Yeah, I'm not optimistic about this one.

Spider-Man X-Men: Arcade's Revenge (SNES)

Part two:
Lots of TMs. That title screen is a bit of a step down from the last Spider-Man game, though to be fair it did come out a few years earlier.

Snoopy's Game Club (MS-DOS) - Guest Post

Real life superhero mecha-neko dives in front of another bad game to save us all.

Doggy fun and games.

Spider-Man: The Animated Series (SNES)

Part one:
Out of all the SNES games I've been playing, that's possibly the best title screen I've seen yet. Spider-Man swings around in the background, then drops down, and climbs back up to pose for the camera.

Hi-Octane (MS-DOS)

Oh wow, it's a Bullfrog game. That's probably a good sign. Probably.

Batman (ZX Spectrum)

Batman ZX Spectrum loading screen
It took five minutes to load this, so I hope you appreciate the incredible sacrifices I make.

I have no idea why Batman is carrying a shield though. We're supposed to be collecting pieces of the broken Batmobile, so I suppose it could be a hubcap.

Eternal Grace (PC) - Guest Post

RPG fan Ocean cunningly uses this opportunity to advertise his friend's game.

OK, now playing Eternal Grace! I know the people who made it so they asked me to play it. You can get the demo here, or support them by buying the full game! http://www.eternal-grace.com/

OK here we go! I wasn't sure what kind of game it was but I really don't tend to look up much about it before I play.

Johnny Bazookatone (MS-DOS)

This definitely seems like something I should have heard of. Well I vaguely remember the name, but I've got no idea what type of game it is or if it's supposed to be any good.

The Blues Brothers: Jukebox Adventure (MS-DOS)

What the hell reason do they have to be so happy? I've never seen any of the Saturday Night Live sketches, but I don't remember them smiling much in the movie.

Tuff E Nuff (SNES)

I'm guessing either a side scrolling beat 'em up or a platformer about a woodland creature with attitude. In the forest.

Alien Trilogy (MS-DOS)

I think this one's a first person shooter. Or maybe I'm confusing it with Alien vs Predator on the Jaguar.

Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu (TurboGrafx-16)

Not to be confused with Jackie Chan's Inaction Kung Fu, where he just sits watching martial arts movies for the whole game.

This was actually one of my favourite platformers on the NES, so I'm curious to see if it's the same game.

Metal Rage (MS-DOS) - Guest Post

Wandering contributor mecha-neko stops by to show off a tank game he's found.

That does say 'Metal Rage'. You'll have to take my word for it.

Adventures of Lolo (NES)

Hey it's by HAL, the Kirby and Smash Bros developers. Maybe this one won't be so bad.

Valdis Story (PC) - Guest Post

Ocean returns with a look at another free rpg.

Valdis Story was something I was asked to play. As I was playing Indie RPGs, I figured why not? It's more a platformer than an RPG really but it does have levelling... I guess that's about it from what I got to play. You can download it here.

Very neat title screen I thought! Time to give it a whirl.

Kolibri (32X)

Kolibri 32X title screen logo
I think this one's called Kolibri. Or maybe it's Kplibys, it's hard to tell.

Tron 2.0 (PC) - Guest Post

Guest poster mecha-neko emerges from the digital world, bringing you this critical data stream.

Greetings, programs!

The Adventures of Bayou Billy (NES)

That's a little more interesting than the average NES title screen so far. I've got no idea what to expect from it though. Or what the different between Game A and Game B could be.

Xenophage: Alien BloodSport (MS-DOS)

This one is actually freeware now, you can grab it from this download page. If you feel that's something you really want to do.

Val d'Isère Championship (SNES)

Also known as Tommy Moe's Winter Extreme: Skiing & Snowboarding and Ski Paradise with Snowboard. I think it might be a skiing game.

In Pursuit of Greed (MS-DOS)

I can honestly say I had no idea this even existed.

The Legend of Zelda (NES)

Yeah I have played this before, a while ago now, but I haven't seriously played it. I walked a couple of screens, got killed by monsters, and turned it off.

Mixed-Up Fairy Tales (MS-DOS) - Guest Post

And now, mecha-neko is going to play a point and click adventure game.

I'm mecha-neko, and I'm going to play a point and click adventure game.

I don't like point and click adventure games.

Adventures in the Magic Kingdom (NES)

I'm not optimistic about this one. Wait, it's a Disney game? Does that mean we're going to THE Magic Kingdom, Disneyland?

The Spirit Engine II (PC) - Guest Post

RPG expert Ocean is back with another freeware game, which you can download for yourself here.

The Spirit Engine 2. By the name I thought it'd be some type of train game or a new game making engine or something. But it's a side scrolling RPG, without platforming parts.

You can change the difficulty and also even change it midgame if you want, but you can disable that too if you don't like that.

Nightbreed: The Action Game (ZX Spectrum)

To be honest I only loaded this up to see the title screen. I should probably turn it off now.

Jazz Jackrabbit (MS-DOS)

Green space rabbit platformer day concludes. This one dresses like Rambo, carries a giant blue crayon and is apparently saving this rabbit woman from an evil turtle.

Bucky O'Hare (NES)

I can't remember ever seeing this series, but weirdly I do remember the theme tune.

Last Rites (MS-DOS)

I edited this picture together from a couple of screenshots to get rid of the text, because it's too awesome to be obscured. It's a shame there's no way this game is going to live up to this.

Tom and Jerry (SNES)

I get the feeling this might not be as polished as some of those other cartoon games.

Tuesday, 10 May 2011

DarXide (32X)

Damn, those textured polygons look a bit ass don't they? Wait, textured polygons on the 32X?

The Terminator (Game Gear)

I have actually played this one before, it was one of the first games I bought for my Game Gear. But I never did manage to get anywhere in it.

It's been a while though, maybe I've become much better at games since then. Somehow.

Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale (Demo) (PC) - Guest Post

Frequent contributor Ocean reports on another indie game.

As the title suggests, you'll be playing as a girl who is in charge of an item shop!
You can download the demo here.

Options: Making the text display quickly. This is a great option. Anyway, onto the game!

Flying Dragon: The Secret Scroll (NES)

I'm almost certain this has nothing to do with actual dragons.

Semi-Random Game Box
