Virtual Bart (Genesis/Mega Drive)

Simpsons games usually range between crap and worse, so lets see how this one rates.

It seems that Bart has come to the school science fair. So far, so good. They don't look like twisted grotesque doppelgängers of the characters, so it's doing better than some tv series tie ins.

Wait... what? Bart has murdered his dad, and brought his head in a jar as his science fair project? That's a disturbing background joke.

Bart volunteers to be strapped into this spinning virtual reality machine. Where it stops will determine the virtual world he will be forced to play a mini game in.

On this level you spin around trees as a baby trying to avoid squirrels. If you fall out of the tree you crack your little baby skull and die. If it doesn't sound like much fun, that's because it isn't.

There are WAY too many clowns in this screenshot. In this level you're a pig, running around trying to flick switches to open cages and liberate your little piggy comrades.

This is the water slide level. In the water slide level you slide down a water slide.

In this level you try to hit people with tomatoes, by aiming at them and judging the distance. And fail.

This level is actually alright compared to the others. You jump around as a dinosaur in a basic platformer, avoiding the hostile cameos.

Agh, it's a character cameo, and he's coming right for me!

Oh shit, it's a clown! DO NOT ENGAGE, I REPEAT, DO NOT ENGAGE.

But most of the time I was jumping up a series of ledges. Then I'd get hit by a boulder, lose a bit of health, get knocked a few platforms down, and have to jump back up again. Over and over and over...

Overall it's a pretty crap game, but compared to other Simpsons games the platformer section isn't so bad.
