Blades of Vengeance (Genesis/Mega Drive)

Not a great title screen I think. The art's alright, but I can barely see the writing against the background.

Hey, it's a character select screen. The difference in game might turn out to be entirely cosmetic but it's nice to given a choice. Even if it is being spied on by creepy old man David Duchovny.

 Looks alright. Catchy music.

It's slick, well animated, enemies explode...

Leaps of faith haven't led to instant death yet.

Hey, it's the old 'ride the raft, jump the blocks' thing.

Combat is alright...

But somehow I just can't seem to care about playing it. It looks good, it plays good, but it's a pretty bland game so far, lacking in the charm or originality or something that makes great platformers so addictive.

Plus it doesn't help that everything so far as been red, black, grey and brown and the level is located in a big red empty miserable lifeless void.

I got lost and fell in the lava and drowned. But it's okay, I was through with it anyway.

It's got a two player co-op mode though, which is cool. I'm not sure how that'd work for a platformer like this, but it could make it more interesting at least. Co-op makes everything better.
