Though there was X-Wing vs TIE Fighter in 1997 now that I think about it. Either way my internet was at 'getting my patches from coverdiscs' level at the time, so all the multiplayer I was playing was on the N64.

Also your entirely hypothetical online system wasn't really saving me time back in 2004, when I had to drag my gaming PC down to the modem to decrypt the copy of Half Life 2 I'd just bought on disc! The first is that it was released within a few days of Half-Life, but unlike Blood 2 it wasn't a total wash - it had far more work put into it.

At the time the conventional wisdom was that single-player games were dead and the future was online multiplayer. If Sin hadn't been completely overshadowed by Half-Life it might be remembered nowadays as the game that put single-player FPSes back on the map.

The other thing I remember is that it had really long loading pauses, and the first patch was something like 30mb, which was huge in those days. Along with Unreal it was one of the first PC games with lots of mandatory internet-delivered patches, so in that respect it was innovative but in a bad way. In contrast Half-Life worked straight out of the box.

Imagine if there was some kind of online system that could automatically patch your games. And instead of buying games in a computer shop, you could buy them online - and download them to your computer. It would save a lot of time. I would call that system... Steve.

Steve. Either way, that's quite fun attention to detail; I like it when games do that.thekelvingreenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01928260185408072124noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2068112306642079190.post-4059355152837359342016-04-30T20:12:29.397+01:002016-04-30T20:12:29.397+01:00Nailed it.Nailed it.Ray Hardgrithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18436491500347661133noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2068112306642079190.post-51395627958522555332016-04-30T19:52:46.392+01:002016-04-30T19:52:46.392+01:00Next game, Dungeon Siege?Next game, Dungeon Siege?Kingbeefhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00233361834972678163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2068112306642079190.post-67031687597144394372016-04-30T03:37:51.470+01:002016-04-30T03:37:51.470+01:00Played this when it first came out.
