Rocky Rodent (SNES) - Replay

Super Adventures in Gaming Replay - Game 2

I didn't get very far first time around in Rocky Rodent (aka Nitro Punks: Might Heads in Japan... damn that is an awesome name). In fact I got stuck at the very start of the first level and decided I didn't like the game enough to even check youtube to see what to do. I figured it'd be funnier just to leave it there and move on to something else instead.

But now I know what I'm doing, so I'm going to take another look at the game, and hopefully make enough progress to do it justice this time around.

Gain Ground (Arcade)

Super Adventures in Gaming Replay - Game 1

Super AiG is one year old today! So I thought this would be a good time to go back to some of the games I wrote about during the first few months and take another look at them. And maybe do a better job of playing them this time around.

I wouldn't even dare animate that title screen in case the flickering static gave someone an epileptic fit. I don't know what Sega were thinking.

I wrote about the Genesis/Mega Drive version of this way back on the 3rd of February last year. In fact I managed to write about eight lines about the game and finished off by saying "There's just... nothing good about this game at all."

Well how the hell do you know that Ray? You played it for literally 20 seconds according to the timer on the screenshots. You basically just made an idiot of yourself in front of the whole internet. Yeah I think this game definitely requires another look.

Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation (GBA)

Another game request, though this will be the last for a while.

The Super Robot Wars franchise has apparently been going on since 1991, but due to licensing issues this is the first in the series to escape Japan. The games are typically a crossover between famous giant mecha series, but for this one the cast is all original characters. Which I guess would be a lot like Smash Bros dropping all the Nintendo characters for a game. Not that it makes much difference to me, I don't know shit about giant robot anime.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six (PC) - Guest Post

A combination of explosive MECHA and real-life NEKO!

Yes, it's Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six! I shamelessly nicked its logo for my banner and it's not even really an FPS at all. Or is it!

Click these pictures to view them at ultra high 1024x768 resolution! Except for the planning interface, which is stuck at a super helpful 640x480.

DoDonPachi (Arcade)

Another request. I'm not sure what I'll be able to say about a bullet hell shooter, but I'll put three credits in and play it anyway.

Wednesday 25 January 2012

Super Metroid (SNES)

By request, Super Metroid (aka Metroid 3 according to the intro text). It's always nice to get another game with 'Super' in the title onto the site.

It's not often you see a SNES title screen featuring corpses lying in pools of their own blood.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (GBA)

A few months ago I was asked to play Fellowship of the Ring on the Game Boy Advance, and I kinda hated every minute of it. This time around they've requested the sequel, The Two Towers, so either they liked what I wrote, or they hate me and want me to suffer some more.

Putty (Amiga) - Guest Post

To celebrate Super Adventures in Gaming's 600th post, I'm playing one of the bundle games that came with the Amiga 600!

Putty aka Silly Putty aka Super Putty aka Putty Moon.

Gotta love that Putty.

Virtua Racing Deluxe (32X)

Not the flashiest title screen, but it's got a voice shouting "Virtua Racing!", so I'm happy.

The original arcade version of wasn't the first polygon racing game, not by a long shot. But back in 1992 it was probably the most graphically advanced ever made, the test game for Sega's shiny new Model 1 arcade hardware. But this is just the 32x port, so I'm not expecting much.

Saturday 21 January 2012

Air Cavalry (SNES)

Wow, it's playing Ride of the Valkyries. Looking at that title screen there's no way this isn't going to be an overhead shoot 'em up.

Thursday 19 January 2012

Batman Begins (GBA)

That's kind of a bland title screen, but it does get the job done I suppose. It's got the correct logo and the title, plus some helpful copyright info. It doesn't need 'Press Start' because it goes straight to the game by itself.

Wednesday 18 January 2012

Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu (GBA)

As title screens go it's not bad and the music's alright. Though it sounds more like it was meant for a Batman Beyond game.

I just hope this turns out better than Batman: Vengeance, the last GBA Batman game I played.

No One Can Stop Mr. Domino (PSX) - Guest Post

Look what I found in the cupboard!

It's Nobody Can Ever Frickin' Stop God Damn Diggety Mr. Dog Damn Domingo.

Great. How the hell do you play this again?

Sunday 15 January 2012

Holy Diver (NES)

Apparently this has no official connection with the Dio song, the developers were probably just metal fans. Though this guy does kind of look like the barbarian Dio plays in the music video...

Sadly despite the English title, this never actually got a release outside of Japan.

Saturday 14 January 2012

Barunba (TurboGrafx-16)

That title screen's not giving much away. Though if I had to guess, I'd say it was probably a platformer or a shoot 'em up. Or a puzzle game.

Wednesday 11 January 2012

Tuesday 10 January 2012

Gene Wars (MS-DOS)

They could have done with a few more polygons on those curved edges maybe.

Monday 9 January 2012

Bad Cat (Amiga) - Guest Post

Hey mecha-neko, why don't you play a game about cats?

Sure, cats are awesome!

Bad Cat aka Street Cat in crazy, far off countries.

"It's the year 1984 and Los Angeles prepares for the Olympic Summergames."

"The dignitories and celebrities prepare their speeches, preparing for the huge crowds who are expected to attend."

"But, there are still the straying city-dweller cats - despised by all. The infamous cats are well known for they are planning their own competitive games."

"Will Bad Cat live up to his name?"

Will he? WILL HE?

Sunday 8 January 2012

Castelian (NES)

I've heard of this one before, by the name Nebulus. Apparently it's also known as 'Tower Toppler', 'Kyorochan Land', and 'that crappy spinning tower game with the frog in it'.

Friday 6 January 2012

Genetic Species (Amiga) - Guest Post

It's another Amiga FPS!

But, mecha-neko, they're all awful! Is this one awful?

That would be telling!

Thursday 5 January 2012

Dangerous Streets (Amiga CD32)

It'd be cool if the game really did take place in an Enter the Dragon style hall of mirrors, but I imagine they've just taken the box art (exotica.org.uk), and mirrored it on the sides to make it fit the wider aspect ratio.

I did actually press the yellow button for instructions, but they turned out to be less than helpful. They didn't even tell me the basic controls. I think I'll be keeping my expectations low for this one.

Wednesday 4 January 2012

Dynamite Headdy (Genesis/Mega Drive)

I've had more requests to play this than any other game, and what's even more impressive is that they all came from the same guy! So here, I'm actually playing the damn game, you can leave me alone now.
